Literature Text

The next day was the same as the last. Riding, and more riding.

My back-end was not happy with any of this.

I was riding next to Kili and Fili and Bilbo.
I haven't really gotten close to any of the others. We four were going to be very close.

"Master Gandalf," Dori called to the wizard. "we are low on food!"

"Not to worry Dori, there is a small town up ahead." Gandalf yelled back.

I smiled. We were going to get real food!

"Do you think there will be a pub there?" Fili asked his brother.

"I hope so! I could use a good pint of ale!" Kili laughed as he slapped his hand on Fili's shoulder.

I rolled my eyes and looked at Bilbo. He also had a look of relief on his face.

"We can get new clothes cousin!" I smiled at the thought of washing up a bit.

- - -

We rode for about a half hour before getting into the town.

It was very small. But large enough to buy food.

We tied the ponies and parted ways. The dwarves who usually did the cooking bought food. The rest bought some things that they alone needed.

Bilbo and I went to get some new clothes and wash up. The only clothes being sold didn't really fit, so rolling up the sleeves was called for.

After getting the necessities and a little cleaned up, we went into the inn/tavern.

Just as I imagined, Kili and Fili were dancing on the table with drinks in their hands. They were laughing and singing.

Bilbo was never much of a drinker, but I would occasionally drink a few at the Green Dragon back home.

I ordered an ale and walked over to the brothers' table.

"Button! It's about time you joined us!"

I smiled and raised my cup at them.

"Come up here with us!" Fili held out a hand.

"Aye! Come on Button!"

I shook my head, "The show is quite enjoyable from down here."

They shrugged and began singing another song.

The rest of the company had finished shopping and came for a drink as well.

Everyone gathered around the large table. All except one.

I got up to order another drink.

Thorin was leaning against a wall, pondering his map and the key Gandalf had given him.

I walked over to him.

He put the map and key away and looked at me, wary.

I felt as though he still didn't trust me to know anything specific about his journey.

"May I ask why you are over here alone?"

I folded his arms and shifted. "I'm afraid I am not as exciting as my kin."

He pointed his head towards his nephews.

"Ah." I nodded.

He reached to the table next to him for his ale. He took a drink.

I shifted my feet and looked down. A little uncomfortable.

"Wi- Will you tell me about it? Erebor?" I slowly looked up.

A flash of pain shot in his eyes.

He cleared his throat.

"I'm sorry.. I imagine it's difficult to talk about.." I began to turn to walk away.

"It was beautiful." his voice was somber.

I turned around to look at him.

He was looking at the ground as he described it.

"The Great Chamber of Thrór, named for my father, was where we held feasts. Grand, exuberant feasts."

I imagined long tables overflowing with food.

"The intricate sculptures were all over."

He sighed. This was very hard for him.

"My home is quite small. Hobbit holes usually are." I tried to distract him.

He looked up at me.

"The rolling hills and the small rivers were all I had seen before now. For a while, that was enough."

I smiled at the memory of the Shire.

"I would always be running through the fields, pretending I was on an adventure or something."

"Hmm." he smiled a little.

Ori came running into the tavern. "The ponies are going crazy!"

We all turned to look at him.

"I can't get them to calm down. It's like they think something is wrong."

Gandalf stood, a far away look on his face.

"We must move. Now!" he ran out of the tavern.

All of us followed him. Out the door and to the ponies.

Ori was right. They were acting insane.

Gandalf saddled his horse, we followed his example.

We rode off down the trail.

I looked behind me and saw a large wolf-looking thing on a hill. It was quite far, so I wasn't sure what it was.

I looked up at Gandalf at the lead, but as I looked back, the large figure was gone.

I don't know how to understand the "I'm not as exciting as my kin", does he clearly say to her that he is jealous? or did he mean "I am not as excitED" (the others are always excited and dance and sing, etc) I would answer to him: "Come on Thorin you're the hottest dwarf around!" and he would just stop and stare at me and wouldn't be able to answer anything, too surprised :XD: :giggle:
